Posting this here now even though I put it on Tumblr weeks ago, because I'm really lazy and ought to have a trophy for Most Ridiculous Procrastinator!

I started this picture soon after reading about Sarasa and Shuri's tragic meeting as Tatara and the Red King, because even though I recognised that the drama was a little overwrought, it made me feel intensely. Sarasa has been with Shuri for months, relishing her meetings with him because they give her a respite from being the leader of revolutionary forces, and because they allow her to express herself as a girl and an individual separate from the prophecy, as she desperately wishes. Imagine her shock, her pain and her tangle of emotions when she finds out, in the middle of a decisive battle, that Shuri is the Red King, the very man responsible for her brother's death and the death of many of the people of her own village. She has sworn to get revenge and revenge is one of her main motivators. What is she to do when she finds out that this guy she hates in that way you can only hate an image or an idea is simultaneously the man she knows and loves?

For more about Basara and why should read it (read it, it's fantastic!), check out this Tumblr post.

A while ago I said that if anyone wrote a fic where Yōko Nakajima, Queen of Kei, goes to visit her dearest friend Rakushun in En (forgetting to arrange for proper accommodation, leading to her having to stay with him, and subsequently talking about life and politics while cuddling), I would love them forever. It looks like [livejournal.com profile] bookelfe  is the unfortunate recipient of my undying love, SINCE THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT SHE WROTE (and more).

It turns out that I really really really ship Yōko/Rakushun, and so it was that when Becca told me she was writing a fic for them, I decided I would like to steal her ideas illustrate it. She agreed to let me, and THIS ABSURDLY SHIPPY PICTURE HERE IS THE RESULT.

If that is in any way relevant to your interests, you should check out her fic, and then come back here for my picture. =D

Cuddling and politics, but mostly cuddling, really. )

This post was part of 10 Reasons to Read The Twelve Kingdoms but it outgrew it and became something of a primer plus a review, I suppose. Expect TOO MUCH BABBLING, general incoherence and ALL THE LINKS.

So tell me more about this The Twelve Kingdoms thing?
The Twelve Kingdoms is a series of fantasy novels by Fuyumi Ono, and its anime adaptation. It’s a collection of tales centred around characters who inhabit a distinctly Chinese-inspired world in which there are twelve individual kingdoms. Rulers are appointed according to divine will, their importance to their real so crucial that if they rule badly or are absent, the kingdom is attacked by monstrous beasts and beset by natural disasters, in addition to being poorly administered. That's why it's so important for Keiki (the magical divine being in charge of choosing the king) to find the destined ruler of Kei. She so happens to be Yōko Nakajima, Ordinary Japanese High School Student, the protagonist of the first* book in the series!

What? Don't look at me like that. I spent a night and a day angsting about proper titles and what if SOMEONE SEES IT and really, it's not that silly a picture, why should have it get a silly name, but alas, it's the only thing I could think of, and being that it was its working title since January, I figure, whatever. Also several people failed to convince me not to and instead ENCOURAGED ME to call it that. Gosh, you people. I blame Rawles and Kate Beaton.

So, here it is. Deryn and Alek being the ridiculous awkward teenagers in love that they are, with a pretty clouds backdrop, because I can. For those not in the know, which won't be many of you, they are characters from Scott Westerfeld's delightful WWI AU, Leviathan. Deryn, on the left, crossdresses to join the Air Service, and Aleksandar, on the right, is a runaway Austrian prince. Deryn proceeds to save everyone repeatedly, while Alek, for the most part, just stares at her admiringly and wonders about how amazing her swagger is and how much he wishes he was like 'Dylan'. SO YEP. (They need to kiss)

(As always, pretend I have a relevant icon. One of these days I'll really get an account. Meanwhile, eh. Also sorriest to those of you who've seen this already in more places than they'd like)

The people over at [livejournal.com profile] qldfloodauction (and the folks on [livejournal.com profile] fandom_flood_ap) have been organising an auction to raise money to help all the people and animals affected by the recent floods in Australia. They are much like [livejournal.com profile] help_haiti and [livejournal.com profile] help_pakistan, where people offer their fannish goods and services in exchange for money which is donated to a number of charities. A brilliant idea, really. I participated on [livejournal.com profile] help_haiti 's auction as an offerer, not having any of my own money to give away. (I drew this, for the record)

I have put up a thread here, where I offer to draw you fanart for just about everything I've ever read and watched and liked. Do have a look, there are many fandoms and I'm definitely going to try my best for any bidders. Have a look as well at all the many other offers and consider making your own!

Last but not least, don't forget that Australia's not the only one affected. Check out [livejournal.com profile] helpbrazil2011. The Brazilians too need all the help they can get!

(I'll see how this goes. WHY ARE THERE SO MANY AUCTIONS. I feel tempted to offer at them all. :/)

Whoops. I never thought I would say this, but I have gotten caught up in my real life. INTERNET, I STILL LOVE YOU. I forgot to crosspost my [livejournal.com profile] fma_ladyfest  art to a million different places in time, and I am doing it now instead. I just realized I still haven't finished my 'simple drawing' requests, and I will do so in the near future. I miss having all the time in the world to draw and read and be on the Internet.

Anyway, on to the art! It is Mei and Xiao Mei, back home in Xing.

She has bookcases, a window and papers strewn all over the floor. )

This, too, started as an aimless doodle, and then turned into this. Just a portrait of Al and Mei, probably sometime after they return from Xing. Goodbye, fifteenth icon space. I do not regret using you up with Mei.

WOO. I am past the halfway point with the requests. This one is NUMBER 6! Aang and Katara, sharing a table at Iroh's teashop, for [livejournal.com profile] redbeardjim . Really worked out that this request was the next in line, since yesterday I remembered all my shippy feelings for these two. <333

Just Aang and Katara )

DUE TO MY PITIABLE STATE OF 15-ICON-NESS I CAN'T EVEN USE AN FMA ICON FOR THIS. Sorry! Have LotR/Doctor Who crossover instead, with applicable (ish) theme.

I managed to shock and surprise myself with the ability to produce a coloured picture this fast. I have no idea how this happened!!! I am going to try to guess and say it was the music's influence and Mei's awesomeness. And I'm definitely not going to complain.

This one is for [livejournal.com profile] rosemusek who requested Mei and Xiao Mei. The picture is pre-canon,  and here Mei is leaving her homeland.

Goodbye to Xing )

As requested by [livejournal.com profile] aamalie . I really like this one, which is why I did not attempt to colour it quickly, even in simple black and white tones. I want to finish it properly, eventually. Meanwhile, have the lineart! I am sorry it is so ridiculously fluffy but you see, I really ship this. In my mind this is set somewhere around the time that final picture in 108 was taken.

Roy and Riza, walking Hayate )

By the way, I am taking suggestions for the background! My dream background would be vaguely turn of the century buildings, but I feel that is impossible (I have no desire to relive drawing buildings in perspective with all technical accuracy). So far the top suggestion is A PARK.

EDIT: Here it is, with colours. CLICKY

I'm done with the first two. At this rate I'll make good on my promise and get all of them done within a week or so! 8D This is turning out to be a great exercise. Because I don't expect to be producing very detailed pictures I feel I'm letting myself draw more freely, in addition to trying to make these 'sketches' more effective without all the crazy 'refinement' I'm used to (which, really, is probably overdoing things).

Anyway, here they are!

P.S. I am tired of my stupid journal's layout not being very good for pictures. Does anyone know how to make it so that when you follow a cut/go to comments it turns into that default layout?
izilen: Paz, from GC (Roy&Riza - Thank you)
This was a WIP far longer than it had any right to be, having been born as a 3am doodle. Went really fast at first, but then I got lost in the details, or distracted by it. Ahaha, self, you are so silly. Whatever, it is done now. I apologise for the awkward poses, the blatant shipping and the lack of kissing.

I FINISHED. I finally finally finally finished. This took absolutely ages. I've been working on it for at least two weeks on and off most afternoons, so I'm glad it's done. Very glad! I'm rather happy with it all things considered, though.
